DIY Garden Fence Build | Multi-Purpose Fence Design (Before & After)

February 27, 2020 by Weekend Gardener

The classic white picket fence in my front yard garden was rotting out, blocking light, and looking outdated. My friend Sara Bendrick stopped by and said, “We need to rebuild this garden fence,” and I agreed.

This is a DIY fence that cost around $600, using the same posts and crossbeams to save some money. When it comes to garden fence ideas, having something multi-purpose makes a lot of sense. This new fence lets in more light due to the lower height and metal grates instead of pickets. The grates can also be used as trellising for my Spring peas, beans, cukes, etc.

You can make suet at home to attract birds. Homemade suet is easy, inexpensive, and can be modified to benefit the birds in your garden. A simple mix of fat, ground grains, nuts, and seeds can provide beneficial birds with the food and nutrition they need during cold months. (Video #131)
